Make your way to Vieng Thong, travelling on winding mountain roads until you reach the Khmu village of Son Koua. After exploring this sleepy village, hop aboard a typical long tail boat before sailing downstream.
Arriving at your campsite, chat with a local ranger about endangered animals that inhabit the park, including a species of tiger. Then, continue by boat upstream with a wildlife expert to a salt lick, and watch a host of native animals gathering to lick salt and minerals from the ground.
In the evening, hear local legends around the campfire before sailing down the river for a moonlit night safari
In the morning, enjoy a hearty breakfast before trekking to the Houay Hai salt lick. Witness spectacular views of Laotian wildlife and lush forest scenery as your guide points out exotic species of animals and plants harvested for traditional medicine. Later, observe more wildlife using special custom cameras before settling down for a tasty picnic in the forest.
In the evening, huddle around the campfire and exchange stories with your guides, or venture along the river for a second night safari.
At dawn, set off for a jungle trek with your guide to seek out exotic plants used in local remedies. Learn the history of this dense jungle from your guide, including a secret war said to have taken place when American soldiers crossed into Laos, during the Vietnam War. Later, enjoy a well-earned breakfast before sailing back to the village to try some locally-made rice whiskey.
